Tit for tat, so far so good

Russia to expel 150 diplomats and close US consulate in St Petersburg over response to Salisbury spy poisoning

Well, at least they aren’t bombing each other. That’s an optimistic sign. Now, I have an open mind as to what actually happened. The British are accusing the Russians of trying to execute a former double agent, though they haven’t provided any evidence in public as to exactly how or why. The Russians have claimed it was a British operation, again, without any evidence. As I have no faith in either May or Putin, I have no idea what the truth is.

But at least it’s just business as usual, no escalation beyond that, no arming of nuclear missiles. The British government has managed to convince a number of allies to join them in a diplomatic expulsion, which suggests there is some evidence that they just aren’t sharing with the general public.

The problem is that until such time as we are provided with evidence, we don’t know what actually happened. All we have is politicians making opposing allegations. It would be nice to have a little more than that to go on.
