May is getting desperate

Not only has she failed to get a cabinet consensus of what post-Brexit relations with Europe ought to look like, and the sands are running out in the hourglass, she’s now experimenting with the Tory version of voter suppression: voter ID requirements:

British voters furious after being denied right to vote for first time in history over controversial ID scheme

This is being tried in several English local authorities going to the polls today, and a fair number of voters are being turned away for the first time in their lives, because they don’t have the right ID, beyond knowing their address.

Now it’s not as though there’s been any indication of large scale voter fraud or other irregularities previously. I’m sure there’s been the odd mistake, but on the whole, since most people know where they live and are capable of giving their address to the tellers so it can be scored out, there haven’t been many, if any, complaints that large numbers of voters have turned up only to find someone has voted in their place.

But since the Tories would prefer to disenfranchise the poorer voters without ID because they don’t vote Tory, they have introduced this “solution” to a non-existent problem.

I guess we’ll have to wait till tomorrow to see what effect voter suppression had on the results, but I really hope that even with this edge, she gets royally creamed.
